11.3 Three-Dimensional Function Tables
Three arguments are required to represent flow through a variable
gate where flow may submerge the gate opening: the water levels
upstream and downstream from the gate and the gate setting.
Relations are approximated in FEQ simulation with a series of 2-D
tables of type 13. Each of these tables is computed for a fixed
gate setting. A table of type 15, with the gate setting as the
argument, lists the table number for the two-dimensional table for
each gate setting and key values of head conditions used to define
the state of flow through the gate. Linear interpolation is used
for those key values. Together with the pair of table numbers
that bracket the gate setting, the key values are then used to
determine the flow from the pair of 2-D tables. Interpolation
between these tables is
discussed in Franz and Melching (1997).
