QUADRANGLE: Benson, 7.5' series

LOCATION: Lat 40 46' 05", long 89 04' 30", in SE1/4 NW1/4 of sec.26, T.27N., RAE., Woodford County, Hydrologic Unit 07130004, on right downstream bridge pier of county road 3.8 miles northwest of El Paso and just below East Branch Panther Creek.

ESTABLISHMENT AND HISTORY: Recorder installed Sept. 13, 1949. Station discontinued on Sept. 30, 1960 and equipment removed. A crest-stage gage was installed April 13, 1961.

DRAINAGE AREA: 93.9 sq. mi.

GAGE: Crest-stage gage mounted on tree 90 ft. downstream of bridge on right bank.

GAGE DATUM: 658.86 ft. above NGVD of 1929.

CHANNEL: Bed of stream consists of sand and gravel. Banks are steep and subject to overflow at 7 ft. Overflow plain is flat woodland and pasture.

CONTROL: Low-water control is a gravel bar 200 ft. downstream from gage. Medium and higher stages are channel controlled.

DISCHARGE MEASUREMENTS: Wading measurements are made 0' to 700' below gage at low stages. For gage heights above 3 feet, measure off of downstream side of bridge. For gage heights above 10 feet, measure the overflow by wading along the road.

FLOOD PEAK OF RECORD: July 9, 1951, stage of 15.15 ft., discharge of 10,900 ft3/s.

POINT OF ZERO FLOW: About 0.6 feet.

WINTER FLOW: Stream freezes over during cold weather.

REGULATION AND DIVERSION: None known.
