Data collected during 1989-96 by the U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in support of an ongoing ground-water study of the glacial drift and bedrock aquifers underlying Belvidere, Illinois, and vicinity are presented in a report recently released by the U.S. Geological Survey. Patrick C. Mills, hydrologist and principal author of the report, said, "The data provide the basis for understanding ground-water flow and chemical compounds within the aquifers. Development of a conceptual model with supporting data is essential to the protection of the region's ground-water supplies." Included in the report are stratigraphic, lithologic, and porosity data, geophysical logs, ground-water levels, hydraulic conductivities, and ground-water-quality information.
This report, titled, "Geologic, hydrologic, and water-quality data from selected boreholes and wells in and near Belvidere, Illinois, 1989-96," by P.C. Mills, D.J. Yeskis, and T.D. Straub, has been released as U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 97-242. Copies are available for inspection at the U.S. Geological Survey, 221 N. Broadway Ave., Urbana, Illinois.
